What's behind the viral carnival hit - How a Student Band's Carnival Anthem Conquered Germany Overnight

A little-known student band has taken Germany by storm with a Carnival anthem. Druckluft's Karnevalsmaus climbed to No. 13 in the official singles chart, leaping 35 places in a single week. The track has also become a viral sensation, inspiring costumes, dances and record-breaking streams.

The song was released on August 29, 2025, but only exploded in popularity during Carnival season. Fans dressed as 'Carnival mice' and shared videos of its signature dance across social media. On Spotify, it topped Germany's Viral Charts and reached No. 2 globally, even surpassing streams of Bad Bunny's biggest tracks.

Druckluft formed as a student band in 2009 but only began writing original vocal music three years ago. Their sudden success comes as Carnival 2026 saw 30 Carnival-themed songs enter the Top 100—a record for the event. Parades in Cologne, including Weiberfastnacht, Karnevalssamstag and Rosenmontag, featured the track heavily, though exact attendance figures remain unclear.

Sony Music has now declared Karnevalsmaus the definitive Carnival hit of 2026. The band plans to build on this momentum with a debut album later this year. They will also headline a German festival tour, playing over 20 dates across the country.

The track's rise marks a turning point for Carnival music in Germany. With a No. 13 chart peak and global viral success, Karnevalsmaus has set a new benchmark. Druckluft's upcoming album and tour will test whether their popularity lasts beyond the Carnival season.
