How a 24-Year-Old Is Transforming Kansas City's Historic Landmarks
A 24-year-old developer is reshaping Kansas City's historic buildings with bold, creative projects. Zach Molzer, founder of Molzer Development, has taken on several major renovations in the past year. His latest work includes the Aladdin Hotel, the Holtman Building, and even a retired city bus turned art installation.
Molzer Development is investing $38 million to revive the Aladdin Hotel in downtown Kansas City. The plan transforms the historic structure into apartments designed with a hospitality focus. Meanwhile, the Holtman Building is being reimagined as a mixed-use destination, featuring commercial space, creative workspaces, luxury lofts, and a rooftop bar. This project is set to finish in May.
Over the last twelve months, the company has acquired three more landmark properties. The former Kansas City Star building at 1701 Main Street is in early planning for mixed-use development. The Lathrop Building at 917 Walnut Street is currently under construction for offices and apartments. The Sauer Castle at 1647 Cherokee Street remains in the early stages, with plans for luxury residences.
Beyond buildings, Molzer Development is adding artistic touches to the city. A large wall in the Crossroads Arts District will become a community-sourced mural. Another unusual project involves converting a retired blue Kansas City bus into the world's first bus stop installation. The firm is also expanding, purchasing more properties in the West Bottoms, Kansas City, Kansas, and preparing for new developments in Johnson County.
Molzer sees his youth as an advantage, allowing for fresh, innovative approaches in real estate. For him, success isn't just about construction—it's about the emotions and experiences of the people who use the spaces.
The Aladdin Hotel, Holtman Building, and other projects will bring new life to Kansas City's historic sites. Molzer Development's mix of luxury, creativity, and community engagement is changing the city's landscape. With more acquisitions and groundbreakings on the horizon, the firm's influence continues to grow.
