Houston Teacher Jennifer Mathieu's 'The Faculty Lounge' Named 2025 Gulf Coast Reads

Jennifer Mathieu, a Houston-based teacher and acclaimed young adult novelist, has had her latest work, 'The Faculty Lounge', selected as the 2025 Gulf Coast Reads selection. The novel, Mathieu's first for adults, is already receiving praise for its blend of humour and heart, offering a candid look into the teaching profession.

Mathieu's previous works, including 'Moxie' and 'The Truth About Alice', have gained critical acclaim and a dedicated readership. 'Moxie', in fact, was adapted for the screen and is currently streaming on Netflix. 'The Faculty Lounge' promises to continue this trend, with readers and critics alike lauding its ability to capture the daily ups and downs of teaching.

To celebrate this selection, Harris County Public Library is hosting a live author event with Jennifer Mathieu on October 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the West U. Community Center. The event is free and registration is now open. This event is part of the Gulf Coast Reads Challenge, where readers can earn badges by participating in activities such as attending programs, writing reviews, or sharing on social media.

'The Faculty Lounge' is currently available on Libby in eBook and audiobook formats with no waiting period. The book will be discussed across nine counties starting in October, giving readers ample opportunity to engage with Mathieu's work and join in the conversation.
