The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a major labor union, has endorsed Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in the Ohio gubernatorial race. This marks a shift towards Republicans and away from Democrats in Ohio for the union.

The Ohio Conference of Teamsters, which represents over 50,000 workers in the state, has backed Ramaswamy. This endorsement comes after the union previously supported former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan for Senate. Notably, Ramaswamy has also received the endorsement of President Donald Trump.

The Teamsters' political arm has been donating more to Republicans in the last two years, reflecting a change in political allegiance. This endorsement is significant as the union has been predominantly supported by Democrats in this decade.

Meanwhile, the House is voting this morning on a Republican proposal to extend current funding levels for the United States government through November 21 to avert a shutdown. However, Democrats are near-united in opposition to the bill due to its lack of healthcare fixes.

The stopgap spending bill is expected to pass, but if it does, it will head to the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Chair Chuck Schumer have finalized a deal to allow votes on Democrats' alternative proposal and expedited consideration of the House's bill. However, both votes in the Senate are expected to fail.

In other news, the Federal Reserve signaled it could cut interest rates two more times this year. Chair Jerome Powell stated that it's not a sure thing that the interest rate cuts would significantly lower housing costs due to a nationwide housing shortage.

Internal union polling shows 60% of Teamsters prefer President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. This preference was evident when the union's general president, Sean O'Brien, spoke at the Republican National Convention during the 2022 presidential campaign.

Some Republicans have expressed the need to hear more from leaders about a long-term plan. As the race for Ohio governor heats up, it remains to be seen how Ramaswamy's endorsement by the Teamsters will impact his campaign and the election outcomes.
