House Committee Issues Subpoenas for Bill and Hillary Clinton in Epstein Inquiry

The House Oversight Committee has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein case, issuing subpoenas to key political figures and law enforcement officials who may have had a role or information regarding the investigations and potential cover-ups surrounding the disgraced financier.

In a bid for transparency, the subpoenas target numerous high-profile individuals, including Jeffrey Epstein himself (posthumously in records), Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Attorneys General such as Pam Bondi, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, and Alberto Gonzales, former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and Ghislaine Maxwell [1][2][3][4].

The subpoenas demand testimony and records connected to investigations and potential knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. The move follows a bipartisan subcommittee vote to compel witness testimony and the release of Department of Justice records, including communications involving President Biden’s administration concerning Epstein [1][2].

Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, stated that Democrats are focused on transparency and are pushing back against the corruption alleged by former President Donald Trump [1]. Trump has accused Democrats of covering up the truth regarding Epstein.

In response to the subpoena, Pam Bondi, listed among the attorneys general, has made public statements on social media [1]. The Department of Justice has also been subpoenaed for all records related to Epstein, including communications with the Biden Administration, with protections ordered for victim privacy [2].

The subpoena to Robert Mueller involves appearing for a deposition on September 2, 2025, focusing on his role as FBI Director during early Epstein investigations [1]. Bill and Hillary Clinton, along with the other named former officials, were subpoenaed for depositions related to Epstein’s crimes, reflecting their possible involvement or knowledge [2][3].

The House Oversight Committee has also issued a subpoena to the U.S. Department of Justice for files related to the sex trafficking investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. The records must be turned over by Aug. 19, according to the oversight committee [4].

Meanwhile, lawyers for Epstein, Maxwell, and their accusers are due to share their views on the potential disclosures with the judges by Tuesday. Maxwell was moved from a prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas last week [5].

The congressional probe may show links to former President Trump and other top officials, as the oversight committee seeks information and files to conduct oversight of the federal government's enforcement of sex trafficking laws and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of Epstein and Maxwell [6]. The Justice Department has cited continuing public interest in the cases in asking judges to authorize the disclosure of the grand jury transcripts [7].

It is important to note that much of the information presented to the grand jury that indicted Maxwell has already been made public. Epstein was known for socializing with wealthy and powerful individuals, and his death in jail has fuelled conspiracy theories that other prominent people may have been involved in his crimes and that he was murdered [8]. However, the previously touted Epstein client list does not exist, according to the Justice Department [8].
