Hot weekend ahead with temperatures soaring up to 30 degrees in the summer heatwave

Germany is set to experience a continuation of significantly warm and mostly dry conditions after the peak of the heatwave expected in mid-August 2025. According to current forecasts, the country will encounter persistently warm and mostly dry weather with temperatures around high 20s to low 30s °C, intermittent limited rainfall, and lingering heatwave conditions fading gradually but not immediately ending.

The German Weather Service (DWD) expects a heat wave to peak in the coming week, with widespread peak temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. The major Heat Dome causing the heatwave is predicted to remain strong into mid-August, driving intense heat that could reach low 40s (°C) in parts of Europe, including Germany, at the heatwave's peak. However, after that, the excessive heat tends to slowly spread north and east with a gradual easing in peak intensities.

Saturday will see high temperatures ranging from 26 to 34 degrees Celsius, with the highest values in the southwest. The south will experience temperatures of up to 36 degrees Celsius locally, while the north will not even reach 25 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, a cool-down is expected as a cold front moves in, replacing the hot air with cooler marine air in many parts of the country. The night from Sunday to Monday will be significantly cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 10 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Meteorologist Tobias Reinartz from the weather service predicts noticeably cooler temperatures on Sunday. In the north, temperatures will reach a maximum of 23 to 26 degrees Celsius with a few harmless cloud fields. Along the coast, temperatures will be cooler, with values of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius. Only in the far north will temperatures likely remain largely below the 30-degree mark.

The weekend will feature many high-summer days with plenty of sun. It will be mainly sunny in the south on Saturday, with some clouds in the rest of the country. On Sunday, the south will see peak temperatures of just over 30 degrees Celsius, while the north will not even reach 25 degrees Celsius.

Despite the expected cool-down, the ongoing warm and dry weather could potentially lead to drought and wildfire concerns in dry areas. Air conditioner sales in Germany are rising, indicating ongoing warm weather beyond the initial peak. However, more rain and lower temperatures are forecast for the second half of the week, offering some relief from the prolonged heat.

The German Weather Service (DWD) is predicting a heat wave to peak in the coming week, with temperatures expected to reach the high 20s to low 30s °C. Afterwards, the weather forecast indicates persistent warm and dry conditions in Germany, similar to weather-forecasting models. Despite the expected cool-down, it's crucial to remain vigilant about potential drought and wildfire concerns due to the ongoing warm and dry weather.
