Hosts of late-night talk shows rally support for Jimmy Kimmel following his show's indefinite suspension, attributed to comments made about Charlie Kirk.

In a surprising turn of events, ABC News has suspended Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, following remarks made during Monday's episode. The decision has sparked a wave of criticism and support, with various industry figures weighing in on the matter.

The controversy began when Kimmel made comments that Nexstar Media deemed 'offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse.' These comments, according to Nexstar, did not reflect the opinions, views, or values of the local communities they serve.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA have condemned the decision to take Kimmel off air, viewing it as a violation of constitutional free speech rights and a type of suppression and retaliation that endangers everyone's freedoms.

Brendan Carr, chair of the US communications regulator, led calls for the Disney-owned network to pull Kimmel's show, describing his monologue as the 'sickest conduct possible.' Stephen Colbert, previously cancelled from his CBS show for criticizing a settlement with Trump, also commented on ABC's decision, describing it as a 'blatant assault on freedom of speech.'

Jimmy Kimmel has yet to comment on his 'indefinite suspension.' However, he has suggested that he will find other ways to continue his show outside of ABC News, emphasizing that he is the platform himself.

The situation has led to a social media furore, with death threats being sent to Kimmel and his staff, leading to preparations for a statement. Reports suggest that representatives of Disney and Kimmel are trying to find the right words to calm the situation.

The fallout has not been limited to Kimmel. Trump wrote on social media that the ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is cancelled and described Fallon and Meyers, Kimmel's peers on competing networks, as 'two total losers, on Fake News NBC.' Jimmy Fallon, in response, called Kimmel a 'decent, funny and loving guy' on his NBC show.

The decision has also prompted protests. An estimated 200 to 300 people protested outside Disney's headquarters, and Nexstar Media announced it would not air Jimmy Kimmel Live! 'for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight's show.'

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this controversy will affect the future of Jimmy Kimmel's show and the broader debate on free speech in the media.
