In an unexpected move, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) vouch that masked and armed individuals in the Gaza Strip shot at civilians, contradicting claims of IDF troops targeting Gazans collecting aid.

On Sunday, the IDF shared drone footage, allegedly depicting armed men in Gaza shooting civilians as they collected humanitarian aid. The footage comes in response to accusations that IDF soldiers fired upon civilians at an aid distribution site, something the IDF strongly denies.

According to the IDF, their initial investigation indicates that soldiers did not target civilians amid the aid distribution site. However, Hamas officials and witnesses claim that more than two dozen Palestinians were killed and over 175 wounded while trying to collect food aid.

Witnesses insist that Israeli forces opened fire on crowds gathered around a kilometer away from an Israeli-backed aid site in Rafah. A Palestinian journalist told the BBC that these groups drew thousands near the aid site when Israeli tanks approached and started shooting.

However, the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has repeatedly denied any instances of chaos and gunfire around its sites, citing security constraints due to their location in military zones.

As tensions linger, Israel has imposed a blockade on Northern Gaza, including the capital, Gaza City. Israel has long accused Hamas of preventing aid from reaching civilians while deliberately endangering them for its control[3].

The IDF Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, dismissed rumors spread by Hamas, urging people not to believe every claim they make. Defrin assured that Israel is investigating each allegation made against the IDF and operates as a professional military[4].

The IDF further reported that, at night, troops fired warning shots in the direction of several people advancing toward them near a humanitarian aid distribution site. Defining this incident as unrelated to previous claims made against the IDF.

The situation in Gaza remains fluid, with the search results not indicating a clear standoff or ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The aid distribution situation is tense, with Israel working to bypass Hamas and ensure aid reaches civilians directly, which has fueled ongoing debates[2].

The IDF Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, not only vouches for the IDF's claim that masked and armed individuals in Gaza shot at civilians, but also assures that Israel is investigating each allegation made against the IDF in the context of politics and general news, amid ongoing war-and-conflicts and a tense health situation in Gaza. Additionally, amid these accusations, Hamas officials and witnesses insist that Israel's military actions have caused harm and casualties among Gazan civilians collecting aid, further complicating the already fragile political landscape.
