Iran: Gunmen Attack Police Station in Southeastern Province

On August 10, 2025, a police station in Saravan, a town in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province, was the target of a violent attack by militants.

According to reports from the Tasnim News Agency and other sources, the attackers were members of the Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice). During routine patrols, the militants ambushed Iranian law enforcement, attempting to storm the police station.

The ensuing clash resulted in tragic casualties. Three militants were killed, and one police officer, Khodadad Baqeri, lost his life. Another police officer was injured and required hospital treatment. Four militants were captured, and weapons and vehicles used in the assault were seized.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of militant violence and cross-border terrorism in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan. Jaish al-Adl has been responsible for several attacks on security forces in the region, including a deadly assault on a courthouse in Zahedan in July 2025 that claimed six civilian lives and injured 20 others.

The region has experienced repeated militant activity, with numerous attacks against police and military personnel over the past year. Iranian officials attribute this ongoing violence to external support networks sustaining these militant operations.

This attack underscores the persistent instability and violent militant insurgency in Iran’s southeastern border provinces. The Sistan and Baluchestan provincial police media center provided information about the incident, confirming the deadly clash with security forces and the arrest of two assailants. The location of the incident was not specified beyond being in southeastern Iran. Three assailants were killed during the confrontation.
