The Israeli government has launched a ground offensive in Gaza, aiming to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of the remaining hostages. The offensive, currently ongoing in the city of Gaza, has escalated, raising concerns that none of the hostages will return to Israel.

According to Israeli information, 20 of the hostages are still alive. Among the hostages are German nationals, and their identities include people like Nimrod Cohen and Rom Braslavski, who also holds German citizenship. However, a full public list of names has not been disclosed.

The relatives of the abducted people from Israel accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sacrificing the hostages with the ground offensive in Gaza. Hamas, on the other hand, has threatened that the fate of the hostages will be the same as that of Ron Arad, an Israeli navigator who was shot down in a combat aircraft in Lebanon in 1986 and whose fate remains unknown.

The Kassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, stated that they will not spare the lives of the abductees as long as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decides to kill them. Hamas has also threatened Israel’s army, saying it has prepared thousands of ambushes and explosives.

In a recent letter, Ron Arad's wife suggested that decision-makers in Israel know that a living captive can simply disappear from the world. This sentiment is shared by the relatives of the abductees, who fear for the lives of the hostages due to the possibility that Hamas could use them as human shields.

Hamas has distributed the hostages taken from Israel across several neighborhoods in Gaza, making it difficult for the Israeli army to locate and rescue them. The Israeli military offensive is being hindered by the presence of hostages in certain areas.

Hamas has stated that Gaza will be a graveyard for Israeli soldiers. In response, the Israeli government has stated that its aim in the offensive is the dismantling of Hamas. The relatives fear that the Israeli government's decision to invade Gaza will only increase the danger to the hostages.

As the offensive continues, the international community is urging both sides to prioritise the safety and well-being of the hostages and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
