Hit by a car! 🎉🚿🚨 Jan Ullrich, the cycling legend who dominated the Tour de France, had quite the unexpected encounter! A driver failed to yield, resulting in an accident that left the 51-year-old badly hurt. Now, he's spilling the beans from his hospital bed!
After being hit by a reckless driver during his training session, the six-time Tour de France stage winner took to Instagram to give his fans an update. "Yep, it happened! I was hit by a car during training yesterday," he wrote, accompanied by a photo of himself giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed. "Your heartwarming messages really cheered me up!" immediately.
He further clarified that he was in good hands and on the road to recovery. While he didn't delve into the specifics of his injuries, he mentioned he would share more details on his podcast "Ulle & Rick" with former pro cyclist Rick Zabel.
On Friday, Eurosport published a report, citing Ullrich's management, revealing that he had a broken collarbone, along with bruises and skin abrasions. According to the report, he collided with a car that didn't yield while cycling near his hometown of Merdingen in Baden-Württemberg.
Due to his injuries, Ullrich was forced to cancel his appearances as an expert on Eurosport's live show after the stages of the Giro d'Italia on Saturday and Sunday. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, he's eager to meet his fans at his "Jan Ullrich Cycling Festival" next weekend in Bad Dürrheim. In the Black Forest, he and some other former stars are planning an event, including Lance Armstrong, his long-time rival and now close friend.
Although Armstrong's seven Tour de France victories were stripped due to doping, Ullrich and Armstrong have rekindled their friendship after their years of intense rivalry. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, Jan Ullrich!
