HSV and Borussia Mönchengladbach Prepare for Clash Amid Return of Key Players

Hamburger SV (HSV) and Borussia Mönchengladbach are gearing up for their highly anticipated match on August 24, 2025, with both teams welcoming the return of key players from injury.

No specific warning or danger was mentioned by Bastian Schweinsteiger regarding HSV, but the injury situation has presented an opportunity for Borussia Mönchengladbach to field a strongly balanced lineup. Four previously injured HSV professionals, Yussuf Poulsen, Jean-Luc Dompé, Immanuel Pherai, and Bakery Jatta, have resumed team training.

Poulsen, the new captain, has made a good impression during his participation in training sessions and has a good chance of being nominated for the HSV Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, Pherai's game comes too early, and a starting lineup for HSV is still undetermined. Dompé and Poulsen, on the other hand, may at least secure a substitute appearance.

Borussia Mönchengladbach is expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Moritz Nicolas in goal, Joseph Scally, Nico Elvedi, Fabio Chiarodia, and Lukas Ullrich forming the defence. Rocco Reitz and Philipp Sander will form the midfield double pivot, while Franck Honorat, Kevin Stöger, and Robin Hack will occupy the attacking roles. Haris Tabakovic will lead the attack, stepping in for Tim Kleindienst who is out due to a meniscus injury.

This lineup reflects the likely return of key players such as Joseph Scally and Nico Elvedi in defence. The returning players fill critical roles, stabilizing the side ahead of the match at Borussia-Park.

For HSV, the load for all four returning players will be increased daily. While Jatta is currently not an option for sporting reasons, Jonas Meffert and Nicolai Remberg are in an open duel for the position next to Nicolas Capaldo in midfield. Dompé, who was previously missed, also has a good chance of being nominated for the HSV Bundesliga opener.

In summary, the HSV injury situation allows Borussia Mönchengladbach to field a strongly balanced lineup with Haris Tabakovic upfront supported by Honorat and Hack on the wings, and a solid defensive block with the returning Scally and Elvedi.
