Horse racing with fixed-odds bets gains traction in the United States, drawing interest in the world of sports gambling
Retired NFL Quarterback Jake Delhomme Lobbies for Horse Racing Betting in Louisiana
Jake Delhomme, the former quarterback for the NFL and a native of Louisiana, has ventured into a new arena - lobbying for the legalization of fixed-odds betting on horse racing in his home state.
Delhomme recently testified before the Louisiana House of Representatives’ Commerce Committee, advocating for legislation that would authorize fixed-odds wagering on horse racing, a sport near and dear to the Delhomme family.
During his testimony, Delhomme spoke candidly about the changing attitudes towards gambling in sports. He shared that in his playing days, discussing gambling was a taboo subject in the NFL, a restriction he no longer faces. Delhomme acknowledged the irony, noting, "And now it's kind of tied in with everything in the NFL, and that's just kind of a huge revenue stream that they've tapped [into]."
The legislation Delhomme supports has been making its way through the legislative process, with House Bill 547 receiving favorable and unanimous support in committee. The bill is now under further consideration, placing Delhomme's efforts in a prominent role in the push for this new form of gambling in Louisiana.
Jake Delhomme, the former NFL quarterback, expressed his support for sports-betting, specifically horse-racing, in his home state of Louisiana. Delhomme, who is well-acquainted with racing since it's a sport close to his family's heart, believes the legislation for fixed-odds wagering on horse racing could revolutionize the sports scene in Louisiana.
