Horse Officer Colt En Route to Wesley Ward Following Top Performance at Keeneland's Midweek Racing Event

The Keeneland September Yearling Sale has once again proven to be a hotbed for equine trading, with a total of $15,405,500 spent on 303 yearlings during Wednesday's session nine. This represents a 12% increase from the same period last year.

The session was highlighted by the sale of a $2 million Into Mischief colt, further underscoring the red-hot market at Keeneland. Another notable sale was a Midshipman colt, purchased by Wesley Ward for $270,000. The colt is out of stakes-placed winner Tiz Rae Anna and is related to Grade 2 winner Debutant's Halo, Grade 3 winners Michael Stars, and Yuvetsi.

The median price at Keeneland increased significantly, rising 36% from the corresponding period last year. The median price of yearlings sold on Wednesday increased 14% from $35,000 to $40,000. Two yearlings were sold for $195,000 apiece.

The average price of yearlings sold on Wednesday was $50,843, a 14% increase from last year. Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 2,074 yearlings for a total of $487,629,500, with an average price of $235,115 and a median price of $150,000.

Other notable sales included a colt by Honor AP, purchased by Jebel Ali Stables and Michael Costa for $195,000, and a colt from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Drain the Clock, acquired by Arroyo Bloodstock. Aspire Equine purchased a colt by Horse of the Year Knicks Go for $210,000. The colt is out of the winning Quality Road mare Well Hello and is related to Grade 2 winner Wicapi.

The colt, consigned by Lane's End, is out of the winning daughter of Street Sense, Sense of War. An $875,000 Not This Time colt headlined the sixth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

The far sold-out colt by Drain the Clock and the colt by Honor AP at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale were acquired by leading bloodstock agents and prominent racing operations, but specific buyer names have not been publicly disclosed. Coolmore has shown interest in Gun Runner at the record-breaking Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

The colt, consigned by Denali Stud, is out of the Uncle Mo mare Mo Cheeks. His family includes Grade 1 winners Behrens, Commentator, and Cowboy Cal. The colt's family also includes Nice Boots Baby, Orinoquia, and Top Line Growth.

The increase in sales at Keeneland is a positive sign for the horse racing industry, indicating a strong demand for top-quality yearlings. The Keeneland September Yearling Sale continues to be a premier event in the world of equine trading.
