"Horrific Attack": Ukraine Intensively Strikes Rostov Region with Drones, Leaving Wake of Destruction

The Rostov region in southern Russia has been under attack from Ukrainian drones, causing chaos and destruction in several cities, including Rostov-on-Don, Salsk, and Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.

In Rostov-on-Don, a drone strike hit a residential building on August 14, 2025, injuring at least 13 people and damaging nearby buildings. About 212 residents were evacuated to temporary shelters, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported in this particular strike.

The city of Salsk was struck on the night of July 29, 2025, with Ukrainian drones targeting the city and its railway station. The attack resulted in one fatality, significant fires, and power outages. The railway hub is crucial for Russian military logistics and the transportation of oil and grain. A fuel train was destroyed, and a massive fire ensued.

Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, another city in the Rostov region, has also been affected by the drone activity, indicating ongoing threats to Russian border towns and logistics hubs.

Ukrainian drones also targeted the Tatsinskaya railway station in Rostov Oblast on August 5 and 6, causing explosions, fires, and damage to power infrastructure. Despite these disruptions, there were no reported casualties during these strikes.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported shooting down dozens of Ukrainian drones over southern Russian regions, including the Rostov Oblast. In response, local authorities have at times cut cell service to hinder drone attack warnings, which has affected residents’ communications.

As the situation unfolds, emergency services are working tirelessly to control the fires and manage the consequences of the attacks. Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, and 45 people and 12 units of equipment are currently involved in the firefighting efforts in Salsk.

Many local residents have taken to social media to share their experiences and reactions to the drone attacks. One resident described the situation as "They're flying again. Horrible," while another simply stated, "What a nightmare." One emotional resident expressed, "Wow, drones are flying."
