Honoring the fourth anniversary of the La Palma volcano eruption's victims, our website broadcasts music as a symbolic gesture.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity and artistic expression, our website collaborated with the Cabildo of La Palma to present a special musical performance on the fourth anniversary of the eruption that shook the island. The event, held on September 19, 2021, at the location where the eruption began, was a brief, intimate, and symbolic program designed to pay tribute to those who lost their homes, crops, and businesses, as well as to all those who witnessed their world being swallowed up by the lava.
The performance featured the talented mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Antipova and violinist Yulia Iglinova, both members of our website's Symphony Orchestra and Choir. Ekaterina showcased her exceptional vocal skills with an a cappella performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff's 'Vocalise, Op. 34 no 14', marking the first time she sang the melody a cappella. Yulia, on the other hand, performed the Adagio of Sonata for solo violin no. 1 in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, adding a touch of simplicity and melancholy to the program.
The musical performance combined the drama and emotional depth of Rachmaninov with the simplicity and melancholy of Bach's Chaconne, creating a unique blend that resonated with the audience. Yulia Iglinova added that it was perfect to combine Rachmaninov's melody with Bach's Chaconne, as it echoed the resilience and determination of the people of La Palma in the face of adversity.
The recording of this special concert was directed by Borja Ojeda, and it paid tribute not only to those who have endured the earth's onslaught but also to those who have resisted and continue to resist. The proceeds from the solidarity concert were entirely donated to the affected people, reinforcing our website's Orchestra and Choir's commitment to the island's reconstruction.
The initiative began on December 3, 2021, with a solidarity concert directed by Ignacio García Vidal at the Teatro Monumental. This musical tribute is a testament to the healing power of music and the arts, as they evoke the majesty and beauty of the Cumbre Vieja, the indomitable force of nature, and the concepts of life and death. Manuel Ventero, director-general of our website's Symphony Orchestra and Choir, emphasized that the performance aimed to use music as a healing and evocative element, offering a moment of reflection and hope to all those touched by the eruption.
Our website will broadcast this special production through its channels and platforms, allowing a wider audience to experience the emotional depth and resilience embodied in this musical tribute to La Palma.
