Unpretentious Legends of Folk Pop: Die Amigos, the Brothers from Hungen
"Honorary Citizenship Granted" - The Amigos are now recognized as Honorary Residents
Accesible, upbeat, and widely beloved, Die Amigos—comprised of brothers Karl-Heinz and Bernd Ulrich—are the superstars of folk pop music, maintaining their down-to-earth persona even in the limelight. Recently, the duo was honored as honorary citizens of their hometown Hungen, during a lively festival on the town square in central Hesse. Mayor Rainer Wengorsch (Free Voters) presented the brothers with their honorary titles, acknowledging their extraordinary contribution to the character and reputation of the city.
With over 100 gold and platinum records, Die Amigos have dominated the German music scene for 55 years, reaching number one on the official German album charts an impressive 16 times[1]. Their famous tunes, such as "Ich geh für dich throughs Feuer" and "Zwischen Liebe und Wahnsinn", have become anthems for many fans, young and old[2].
In his speech, Mayor Wengorsch praised the musicians for their humble, unpretentious nature, which fosters unity across generations[3]. The decision to grant them honorary citizenship by the city council was unanimous. This is the highest honor Hungen can bestow upon individuals who have made exceptional efforts to better the city's well-being and prominence.
The brothers, who grew up in the Villingen district of Hungen[1], excited the crowd with live performances of their hit songs, including a track from their upcoming album "Lebe jetzt"[1]. Dancing along to the catchy tunes, the audience was treated to an unforgettable experience.
"We do it like the Rolling Stones, we never stop," sung Die Amigos in their hit track "Wie die Rolling Stones". True to their lyrics, the brothers plan to continue sharing their music with fans far and wide. Bernd Ulrich emphasized their determination to entertain, boldly stating that the word "retirement" was foreign to them. While reducing their performance schedule slightly, Die Amigos will still play about 70 to 80 shows a year, ensuring their legend lives on.
As a fitting finale for the night, the duo, in characteristic generosity, showered the audience with 120 liters of free beer.
