The Hong Kong Palace Museum in West Kowloon will be hosting an exciting fencing exhibition on August 26, 2025. This event will feature a highly anticipated match between two notable fencers: Hong Kong's own Edgar Cheung Ka-long, a two-time Olympic gold medallist in men's foil, and Enzo Lefort, a three-time world champion and gold medallist from the Tokyo Olympics men's foil team, hailing from France.

This exhibition marks the first time the Palace Museum in West Kowloon hosts a fencing competition, reflecting an effort to promote fencing and connect it with cultural landmarks, similar to the Grand Palais in Paris, which hosted fencing during the Olympics.

The main event will also see Hong Kong's Lam Hin-chung facing China's Olympic gold medallist Zhong Man in sabre, as well as a match between local rising athlete Hailin Chen and fellow fencer Vivienne Lee.

This exhibition is a significant milestone for Hong Kong's fencing community, highlighting its rising prominence on the international stage and celebrating its recent Olympic successes. The event is being organized to celebrate the co-hosting of the National Games in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, which will run from November 9 to 21.

Initially, there were doubts about hosting a fencing event at the Palace Museum. Antonio Lam Hin-chung, acting general secretary of the Fencing Association of Hong Kong, China, was sceptical. However, these doubts were alleviated after the success of the Games at the Grand Palais in Paris.

The competition between Cheung Ka-long and Enzo Lefort at the Palace Museum will mark a new venue for their rivalry. Their last encounter was in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, a match that ended in a thrilling 15-14 win for Cheung Ka-long.

The exact location for the competition has not been specified yet. However, it is known that the exhibition is a rematch of their quarter-final tie at the Paris Olympic Games last year.

This fencing exhibition at the Hong Kong Palace Museum is a testament to the growing popularity of the sport in Hong Kong and the commitment to providing world-class events for both athletes and spectators. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting event.
