Honda's Shine variants, the 100 DX and the standard 100 model, compared - is the additional ₹6,000 justification for the enhanced features?
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has introduced an upgraded version of its popular commuter bike, the Honda Shine 100. The new model, named the Shine 100 DX, comes with several enhancements that set it apart from the standard Shine 100.
Design and Visual Changes
The Honda Shine 100 DX boasts a refreshed design, featuring a newly designed headlamp with chrome garnishing, a chrome muffler cover, and blacked-out engine and grab rail finishes. The DX model also offers updated graphics and colour options, including Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic, and Geny Gray Metallic. In contrast, the standard Shine 100 offers a more basic design with five colour options.
Features
One of the most notable changes in the Shine 100 DX is the inclusion of a modern LCD digital instrument cluster. This advanced feature provides real-time fuel efficiency, distance to empty, and service reminders. The DX model also includes a side-stand engine cut-off system for enhanced safety, a feature that is absent in the standard model. Additionally, the DX model features 17-inch tubeless tires, whereas the standard Shine 100 uses tube-type tires.
Specifications
Under the hood, both models are powered by a 98.98cc single-cylinder engine, with the Shine 100 DX's engine being fuel-injected with OBD2B & eSP technology, while the standard Shine 100 is air-cooled. The power and torque outputs are similar for both models, with outputs around 7.2 to 7.28 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 8.04 Nm at 5,000 rpm. Both models have a 4-speed gearbox.
The Shine 100 DX's larger fuel tank, with a capacity of 10 liters, offers fewer refueling stops, according to customer feedback provided by Honda. In comparison, the standard Shine 100 has a 9-liter fuel tank.
Price
The Honda Shine 100 DX retails at ₹74,959 (ex-showroom), which is ₹6,000 more expensive than the standard Shine 100's price of ₹68,862 (ex-showroom). The price increase places the Shine 100 DX in the same price range as the Hero Splendor.
Weight
The Honda Shine 100 DX weighs 103 kg, which is 4 kg more than the standard model due to the larger fuel tank. The standard Shine 100 weighs 99 kg.
The additional features of the Honda Shine 100 DX, including tubeless tyres, digital console, safety features, and cosmetics, justify the extra cost compared to the standard Shine 100, making it an attractive option for those who value these enhancements.
After the upgraded launch of the Honda Shine 100 DX, some might prefer to trade their hockey stick for a ride on this bike, as it offers more than just a refreshed design. The DX model, with its inclusion of a modern LCD digital instrument cluster and side-stand engine cut-off system, brings a touch of sports technology to the commuter bike world.
