Apartment Burglary Leads to Unexpected Equilibrium for Oliver Wnuk - Homeowner, Oliver Wnuk, spoke out unexpectedly following a break-in incident
Actor Oliver Wnuk, recognized for his role as a commissioner on crime series "Nord Nord Mord" and other productions, fell victim to a break-in at his Berlin apartment last year. Surprisingly, the actor candidly discusses the incident and its impact on his life. "Last year, before I left Berlin, my place got broken into. A lot was taken, yet it brought a feeling of liberation," the native of Constance revealed during an interview with the "New Osnabrucker Zeitung."
"It was my computer, iPad, and a considerable sum of cash. It was quite substantial," Wnuk explained concerning the financial loss. At that time, he held a large amount of cash due to advice from a friend: "Wait, the blackout is coming; if the ATMs don't work, you'll need cash."
Lessons from the Home Invasion
Having been pilfered, Wnuk's views on material wealth underwent a significant shift. "To put it plainly: In that instant, I recognized that we're merely borrowing, not owning things," he pondered.
Being robbed proceeded through different emotional phases: "When you're robbed, you feel helpless initially. Especially when it's a significant theft like this. Then you assess the damages: They took this, and that, and even more. It's a shock and feels akin to loss," Wnuk described his immediate feelings. "Initially, there's a strong sense of helplessness. But then comes an amazing lightness: Let go! You don't need all this."
Relocating to Bavaria
Upon moving to Lake Starnberg, Wnuk ensured he owned fewer belongings. "I moved out with minimal items. I've been living alone for several years, and finding it liberating to take as little as possible with me appealed to me," the actor clarified.
The incident propelled Wnuk towards a minimalist lifestyle. "I considered long and hard about buying a turntable again—because then I'd have to resume collecting records. I found it liberating not to do so," said Wnuk. The television star even took preventive measures: "For anyone who finds my address, here's a message to all burglars: There's really nothing to steal here—except for 56 records, which I've collected again."
