Homeowner files lawsuit against Bad Bunny for utilizing their property in a music video, questioning the artiste's living arrangements
In an unexpected turn of events, an 84-year-old man named Román Carrasco Delgado has filed a lawsuit against superstar Bad Bunny, accusing him of illicit enrichment, privacy violation, and emotional distress. The lawsuit, filed in the Court of First Instance in San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital, names Bad Bunny and three co-defendants, including Bad Bunny's record label.
According to the lawsuit, Carrasco's home in Humacao, Puerto Rico, was used without his permission in Bad Bunny's concert series. The home, built by hand with help from his father and brother who were carpenters, features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a wide, wrap-around porch. The lawsuit alleges that Carrasco authorized a scout to use his house in a video but never received a formal or informal proposal, details about the video, or signed any contracts.
People began to take pictures and measurements of Carrasco's home during the video filming, which were used to construct an exact copy inside the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum for Bad Bunny's concert series. The home was also the model for a real-size house nicknamed "la casita" at Bad Bunny's concerts. Celebrities and musicians like LeBron James, Penélope Cruz, Residente, and Belinda visited and performed at these concerts.
The lawsuit further claims that daily visitors to Román's home for photo and video opportunities violate his privacy. The lawsuit notes that officials fraudulently obtained Carrasco's signature on a white screen on a cell phone, digitally transferring it to two different contracts, which were not delivered to him nor their contents explained. Carrasco received two checks totaling US$5200 while the video featuring his home that he and his brother designed and built in the 1960s received 22 million views.
The lawsuit alleges that as a result of these actions, the contracts are void. Carrasco, who is unable to read or write, seeks at least US$1 million in damages and emotional distress. The lawsuit also accuses Bad Bunny and the co-defendants of unjust enrichment related to these companies.
This lawsuit adds a new layer to the ongoing legal issues surrounding Bad Bunny, who has been previously accused of privacy violation and emotional distress. The outcome of this case is eagerly awaited by fans and legal observers alike.
