Homebound individuals miss out on opportunities, as evident in Dylan Cunha's trip to Keeneland, where a new recruit prepares for a journey to Newmarket.

In the world of horse racing, Dylan Cunha and his team are making waves. The British trainer, who took over the entire yard of Newmarket following the retirement of William Jarvis in 2022, has set his sights on competing against industry leaders at Keeneland.

Cunha's ambition is evident in his recent purchases. So far this year, he has acquired 12 yearlings, including Tailgunner Joe, a son of Knicks Go, who has won a maiden this season and is expected to run at Newmarket next weekend. Another notable addition to his stable is the Liam's Map colt, purchased from Elm Tree Farm in the Book 2 section of the yearling sales programme.

The Liam's Map colt, which was purchased for $50,000, is expected to race on turf due to Cunha's preference for turf horses. The colt's sire, Fashion Code, currently stands for $40,000 at Lane's End.

Cunha's keen eye for talent was evident in his previous purchases as well. Prague, a stable star, was found unraced and for 10,000gns at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale by his head lad Amedeo Dal Pas. Asgard's Captain, another stable star, was an 18,500gns online purchase. The Liam's Map colt was identified by Cunha's father, Luiz, who is a pedigree consultant.

Cunha's team has also acquired yearlings from Goffs UK and the Somerville. However, the breeder of the young fox he purchased at the Keeneland September Sale 2022 remains unspecified, with the stallion currently standing in Japan.

The trainer's determination to succeed is evident in his plans for upcoming sales. Cunha intends to go to Tattersalls with a list and try to find suitable horses, despite their budget constraints. He acknowledges that they may not be able to afford any of the horses in Book 1, but he is undeterred.

Cunha's previous visit to Keeneland in 2024 ended empty-handed, but he is optimistic about his chances this time around. He visited the United States to buy yearlings at Keeneland September and has learned from the experience. He plans to attend Book 1 at Tattersalls, and a trip to Ireland is planned next week for Cunha and his team.

As Cunha and his team prepare for these sales, they are not just competing against other trainers, but also against the odds. With a clear vision, a keen eye for talent, and a relentless determination, they are ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
