Hollywood stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and over 700 industry figures denounce Hamas, calling for the release of hostages and labelling their actions as "terrorism" and "evil".
In an unprecedented show of solidarity, more than 700 figures from the entertainment industry have signed an open letter condemning Hamas and demanding the safe return of hostages being held in Gaza.
The open letter, organised by the nonprofit organisation Our Platform, calls on friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry to speak out forcefully against Hamas. Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, is among the high-profile signatories, along with Bryan Lourd, Richard Lovett, Aaron Bay-Schuck, Jody Gerson, Ziggy Marley, Jenji Kohan, and many others.
The letter urges all governments, international organisations, and civil society groups to condemn Hamas' crimes and take action to help secure the release of hostages. It also urges humanitarian organisations like the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNICEF, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and others to do everything within their power to get aid to hostages.
The open letter comes amidst ongoing conflict in Israel, where at least 1,200 people have died, and over 100 civilians have been kidnapped and held hostage. President Joe Biden has condemned Hamas as a terrorist organisation and has expressed unwavering support for Israel as it now retaliates in Gaza.
The open letter describes the terrorism committed by Hamas, including the kidnapping and murder of innocent men, women, and children, the rape and mutilation of women, and the parading of bodies through the streets and on social media. It also warns of an orchestrated misinformation campaign spearheaded by Iran on social media during Israel's defense efforts and urges everyone to remember the horrific images that came out of Israel and not amplify or fall for their propaganda.
Haim Saban, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, has also voiced his support, saying, "In the aftermath of the barbaric killing of more than 1,200 Israelis, we in the Hollywood community and around the world must stand with Israel as it defends itself against a terrorist regime in Gaza that seeks Israel's destruction."
The open letter ends with a hope for the day when Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace. It provides contact information for sharing the letter on Facebook, Twitter, SMS, WhatsApp, and Email.
The National Council of Jewish Women has also published a separate letter voicing support for Israel and demanding the immediate return of hostages from Hamas. Signatories include Gadot, Debra Messing, Schumer, Montana Tucker, and Mandy Moore.
The open letter regarding the Supernova Music Festival and the attack by Hamas that brought death and destruction to an event celebrating friendship and love, has also gained significant attention.
The open letter serves as a powerful call to action, urging the entertainment community at large to speak out forcefully against Hamas, to support Israel, to refrain from sharing misinformation about the war, and to urge Hamas terrorists to return hostages back to their families.
