The Dish on Silksong
April 2025 Update: Finally, it's official - Silksong is set to drop this year! We've updated our Silksong hub below to include all the mouthwatering morsels dished out during April's gaming extravaganza, plus we've got the lowdown on the game's eye-popping wishlist numbers and fresh footage.
When Can I Get My Claws on Silksong?
If you've been having a ball-ache wait, prepare yourself for another dose of impatience - Silksong will grace our screens sometime this craggy year. The Nintendo showcase didn't spill the exact beans on launch season, so we're gonna have to keep our fingers crossed and our eyes peeled.
The announcement arrived shortly after a spot from Harvey, who couldn't resist pointing out that Silksong's Steam Wishlist ranking was bouncing back and forth between the top spots with Inzoi. The anticipated release window inspired a tidal wave of enthusiasm and propelled Silksong straight back to the summit of the wishlist.
We'd been hoping for a 2023 launch after Silksong caught our eye at the June 2022 Xbox and Bethesda showcase, but alas, Team Cherry confirmed the game wasn't making the June 2023 deadline with a tweet from Griffin: "It's gotten quite big," he wrote, "so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."
What's New in Silksong?
Like its predecessor, Silksong is a side-scrolling action game with all the delicious painfulness of Dark Souls' boss battles and encounters. As you venture Metroidvania-style across a sprawling map, you'll battle over 150 different types of creepy crawlies and some seriously formidable bosses.
Silksong is shaking things up with a brand-new suite of move-to-wow mechanics, including Hornet's ability to dash and sprint, her aerobatic feats, and her chatty attitude. And just when you thought that was enough, Hornet hoo-haws her way through her problems and heals faster than The Knight from Hollow Knight.
You'll have to learn to make do without charms, as Hornet relies on tools like bombs and spiked balls for her abilities. You can even craft your own tools with Shell Shards, a new currency you earn from whacking bad guys and rummaging through treasure chests.
Speaking of money, it looks like Silksong is bringing a second currency into the mix – Rosaries. Like Shell Shards, you can use them to repair and craft tools, or to buy goodies. But watch your whiskers, because if you die, your Rosaries can be lost unless you string them up real good. Talk about taking things to the next level!
If you're hoping for a quest system, your prayers have been answered, as Silksong offers four categories of quests to make your bug-battling life a tad more exciting. Hand your mission briefs to NPCs, and track your progress using notice boards to stay on top of things.
The Sound of Silksong
You'll never forget that haunting soundtrack from the original Hollow Knight, thanks to composer Christopher Larkin, who's returning for Silksong to give your eardrums another delightful tickling. He's already shared a couple of snippets from the game's soundtrack, brimming with the triumphant strings, gloomy piano, and spine-tingling cries that only Hollow Knight can deliver.
Long Live the King (or Queen) of Beats!
That's the lowdown on the game we've all been dying to get our virtual claws on. If you want to whet your whistle further, check out the Nintendo video featuring '20 minutes of Hollow Knight: Silksong,' which covers everything from the intro to the first boss and gives you a chance to catch a glimpse of some of the new abilities Hornet will have at her arachnid disposal.
