Holiday home in Sool destroyed by massive fire amid harsh weather
A holiday home in Sool, Glarus Süd, caught fire early on Thursday morning. By the time firefighters arrived, the building was already fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported, but the structure suffered severe damage and risked collapse. The blaze began shortly after 9 a.m., quickly spreading through the property. Strong winds and heavy snowfall caused smoke to drift across the village, prompting an AlertSwiss warning for residents to close windows and doors.
Around 75 emergency personnel responded to the incident. Harsh weather and the need to clear access roads slowed their efforts. An excavator was brought in to help control the flames. By Thursday evening, crews had contained the fire. Records show no other major fires have affected buildings or infrastructure in Glarus Süd in the past five years.
The holiday home was left heavily damaged, with parts of the structure at risk of collapsing. Authorities confirmed no one was hurt during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
