In response to northern invaders threatening China, the powerful Chinese Emperor, portrayed by Jet Li, orchestrates the formation of a colossal army. To safeguard the land, every Chinese family will contribute one member to serve, including the ill and frail father of Mulan, Hua Zhou (Tzi Ma), played by the veteran actor Tzi Ma.
