Holcim Acquires German Building Materials Firm Xella - Holcim to Acquire Xella for €1.85B, Boosting Sustainable Construction Portfolio

Swiss building materials titan Holcim is set to fortify its sustainable construction portfolio with the acquisition of German wall systems provider Xella. The deal, valued at 1.85 billion euros, is expected to close in the latter half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

Xella, which employs over 4,000 staff and expects a turnover of around one billion euros by 2025, will bring its extensive product range to Holcim. The German company's brands, including Ytong, Silka, Hebel, and Multipor, are renowned in 21 European markets. The acquisition aims to bolster Holcim's position in sustainable construction, with Xella's focus on innovative, eco-friendly building materials aligning perfectly with Holcim's own sustainability goals.

Before the takeover, Xella was headquartered in Duisburg, Germany. In April 2022, the Swiss Baustoffgruppe Holcim snapped up the German company, marking a significant step in Holcim's Europa expansion.

The acquisition of Xella by Holcim is set to enhance the Swiss company's offerings in sustainable construction. With Xella's strong portfolio of brands and focus on eco-friendly products, Holcim stands to gain a significant competitive edge in the Europa market. The deal, expected to close in late 2026, promises a bright future for both companies in the sustainable construction sector.
