In a unique brand moment, HOKA has partnered with avant-garde label J.L-A.L. to transform the Mafate X, a technical trail running shoe, into a fashion-ready silhouette. This collaboration blends HOKA's performance heritage with J.L-A.L.'s minimalistic design aesthetic and material innovation.
The Mafate X × J.L-A.L collaboration retains its technical DNA, featuring a grippy outsole, high-stack cushioning, and trail-ready stability. However, it has been visually stripped back and refined into a silhouette suitable for both galleries and ridge lines. The shoe embraces a refined, minimalistic style with nuanced details, such as shimmering finishes inspired by natural phenomena like sushi iridescence and terrain motifs (mud, rock, water).
The collaboration will launch on August 22 in two colorways: “Jet Black/Espresso,” offering an understated yet bold look, and “Beluga/Volcanic Ash,” evoking soft earth tones for quiet sophistication. The 2025 Speedgoat 2, also a part of this collaboration, is a nod to the original 2017 model, featuring the same design elements and characteristics.
