Upsy daisy, it appears Ukraine's fight against Russia might be facing some significant hurdles in terms of international support. G green politician Anton Hofreiter and EPP leader Manfred Weber are sounding the alarm bells, urging the EU to step in and lend a helping hand.

The US has been dealing with a whopping $61.4 billion aid package for Ukraine, but it's been struggling to break through a blockade in Congress. As a result, aid to Ukraine has dropped a staggering 87% since January 2022. That's a pretty substantial reduction, and it's got Hofreiter worried. He's calling on Europe to step up to the plate and fill the gap, urging European partners to quickly place orders for weapons systems from the arms industry to defend Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden has been trying to break the blockade since October, but so far, he's been unsuccessful. Hofreiter isn't holding back on his criticism, warning that if Ukraine loses this fight, there will be no peace and Putin will continue to attack.

Manfred Weber, leader of the EPP group, shares Hofreiter's concerns. He points out that Russia is already destabilizing Europe, with closed borders, daily cyber attacks, and fake news spreading like wildfire in Slovakia. Weber is urging heads of state and government to provide further assistance, urging the EU summit next week to send a clear signal of support to Ukraine.

There's been talk about Europe potentially increasing its military aid to Ukraine by at least €6 billion. That's a pretty hefty package, including 1.5 million artillery shells and air defense systems. Germany has been a significant contributor to this effort.

But like any good political debate, there are different opinions. Some, like the Green Party's Hofreiter, are more hawkish, advocating for increased military support. Others, like EPP leader Manfred Weber, are more diplomatic, pushing for peace negotiations and a more balanced approach.

It's a complicated situation, and it's clear that Europe needs to tread carefully. With Russia's aggression showing no signs of slowing down, it's crucial that Europe finds a way to support Ukraine without escalating the conflict any further. Let's hope they can figure it out soon.

Now, just to add a bit of context, the EU has been providing significant financial and military aid to Ukraine since Russia's invasion in 2022. The EU has provided Ukraine with 134.5 billion euros ($141 billion) in aid, including 48.5 billion euros ($51 billion) in military assistance. The EU is planning to approve an additional 5 billion euros ($5.24 billion) in aid, and there's talk of potential security guarantees to Ukraine. However, there are differing opinions among European leaders, with some, like France and NATO, strongly supportive of offering security guarantees, while others, like Hungary, remain opposed to military aid.

It's a complex situation, but with unity and diplomacy, Europe can support Ukraine without further escalating the conflict. Let's hope for a peaceful resolution.
