Swiss defensive midfielder Leon Avdullahu is all set to kick off a new chapter in his career with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. At just 21, Avdullahu is making a significant move from FC Basel, having penned a contract that binds him until 2028.

In a statement, Hoffenheim's Sporting Director Andreas Schicker praised the young prodigy, "Leon has already proven his mettle as a crucial player and performer in the defensive midfield at FC Basel at such a young age. He's a tactically astute player who embodies aggression, powerful tackling, and a keen eye, complemented by robust technical skills."

Avdullahu honed his skills with FC Basel since 2018, starting his journey by rummaging through the club's youth ranks. He rose to prominence in the 2023/24 season, becoming a prominent figure in Basel's victorious campaign across both leagues and cups. Last season, Avdullahu played a total of 39 league games and 4 cup games, in addition to his 41 senior appearances over five seasons for Basel[1][3].

Stretching 1.85 meters tall, the tenacious defender has been in the captain's chair for Switzerland's U21 national team[1]. Though he has yet to receive a nod for the senior national team, Avdullahu's impeccable game sense, combining strategic thinking with forceful tackle techniques, has already earned him considerable recognition[1]. During the 2024-25 season, Avdullahu demonstrated an impressive pass success rate of 90.2%[3]. Hoffenheim secured the transfer for a rumored fee of €8 million, along with additional incentives[1][2].
