Skeptical Hoeneß Slams Kroos' Potential Return to DFB Team: "Titanic Signal"

Bayern Munich's honorary president Uli Hoeneß has yet again taken a jab at Toni Kroos and dismissed the idea of the Rio World Cup champion making a comeback to the German national soccer team.

"That would be quite a Titanic signal," the 71-year-old commented on "Sport und Talk im Hangar 7" on ServusTV, as reported by the "Kronen Zeitung." While Kroos is an "outstanding footballer," Hoeneß maintains that he does not believe he is the savior of German soccer.

Hoeneß has previously expressed his disdain for Kroos as a member of the DFB team, criticizing his style of play in a 2021 "Doppelpass" program on Sport1 following Germany's European Championship exit and Kroos' subsequent retirement from the national team. Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann recently considered the prospect of a Kroos return an "interesting thought" during a discussion on ZDF sports studio. According to Bild, Kroos himself may be contemplating a return for the 2024 European Championship at home.

Born in Bavaria, Kroos started his professional soccer career with Bayern Munich, where he claimed his first Champions League title in 2013 before moving to Real Madrid in 2014. With his new team, the midfielder went on to win the Champions League four more times, making him the only German player to achieve this feat.

Despite his impressive international record, Hoeneß continues to doubt Kroos's worth in the DFB team. Whether or not Kroos will be given a second chance to prove himself remains to be seen.
