Democratic candidate Kathy Hochul's advantage over Republican opponent Elise Stefanik widens to a substantial 25-point margin in the latest polling data.

Hochul's lead over Stefanik expands to 25 percentage points in the latest survey

Governor Kathy Hochul's leadership and decisiveness have found favour with a near-majority of New York voters, according to a recent Siena College poll. The survey, conducted between September 8 and 10, shows that 57% of voters believe Hochul gets things done, and 54% think she works hard for the people of New York.

The poll also indicates that a majority of registered voters prefer Hochul over Rep. Elise Stefanik as the state's executive. In a survey of 802 registered voters, Hochul's lead over Stefanik is 25 percentage points, a 11-point increase from last month.

Hochul's favorability has seen a significant improvement, marking her first positive rating since April and her best rating since January 2024. The latest Siena College poll shows that Hochul's job approval rating is at its highest in over two years.

The Governor's endorsement of Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee in the New York City mayoral race, could potentially boost her support in the city, where he won resoundingly in June. This endorsement comes after months of Hochul declining to do so following Mamdani's shocking primary victory.

The poll also reveals that a majority of New York voters believe that Trump should not send the National Guard into New York, a position strongly opposed by Gov. Hochul. Moreover, an even larger majority believes that Trump's spending bill will threaten necessary health care programs.

The new numbers show that Hochul's lead over Stefanik wasn't part of a trend. Hochul leads Stefanik in New York City, the suburbs, and has a plurality upstate. The Governor's public opposition to President Trump may be contributing to her improved standing in the latest poll.

The new poll also shows President Donald Trump's favorability at a two-year low and his job approval at its worst since the beginning of his second term. This could indicate a shift in public sentiment towards both the Governor and the President.

In conclusion, the Siena College poll indicates a strong showing for Governor Kathy Hochul in the upcoming elections. With her endorsement of Mamdani and her decisive leadership, she seems poised to maintain her lead over Rep. Elise Stefanik. The public's support for her stance against President Trump's policies also bodes well for her campaign.
