Hobey Baker Award Contenders: Thomas Gale and Liam McLinskey Announced as Finalists
Holy Cross Men's Ice Hockey Team Surprises with 10-Game Win Streak
The Holy Cross Men's Ice Hockey team has been making waves in the Atlantic Hockey America conference and beyond, currently on a 10-game win streak. This unexpected success has seen the team climb from a humble start to the top of the league standings.
In early December, the team had a tough start to the season with a 6-4-1 record. However, their fortunes have since turned around, and they now boast an overall record of 15-11-2 and a league record of 13-4-2, placing them in first place in Atlantic Hockey America.
One of the key contributors to the team's success has been junior Liam McLinskey. Not only is he the leading scorer for the team this season, having scored 17 goals and amassed 30 points, but he has also been named Atlantic Hockey America Preseason Player of the Year.
McLinskey's impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, as he has been named a top 10 finalist for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award. This NCAA hockey honor is given annually to the top player in men's college hockey. Last year, McLinskey was a top 10 finalist for the award, marking the closest any Holy Cross player has ever come to the accolade.
While McLinskey is yet to win the Hobey Baker Award, he has been nominated for the honor once again this year. However, it's worth noting that he is not mentioned among the recent or past winners or notable honorees for 2025. The 2025 Hobey Baker Award was won by Isaac Howard of Michigan State.
Another standout player for the Crusaders is senior goalkeeper Thomas Gale. Gale has started in 27 games this season and has a 0.927 save percentage, as well as averaging 2.21 goals allowed per game. Gale has also been named to the watch list for the Mike Richter Award, given to the top Division I goaltender in the NCAA.
The Hart Center Rink has been buzzing with excitement due to the Holy Cross Men's hockey team's success. Despite being picked to finish 10th out of 10 in the preseason poll, the team has defied expectations and advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Championship Game.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if McLinskey and Gale can continue their stellar performances and potentially bring home some hardware for Holy Cross. Regardless of the outcome, their contributions this season have already made a significant impact on the team and the college hockey community.
