HMK Christmas Concert 2024 Lineup Stars James Bond, Udo Jürgens, and a Generous Serving of Holiday Cheer
In the heart of Kassel, the Army Music Corps (HMK) held their annual charity concert on the third Sunday of Advent. This year's event, the 47th Christmas concert, was a special one, as it marked the farewell performance of Tobias Terhardt, the HMK's leader for the past nine years.
The concert, held in the city hall, was a musical journey that spanned various genres. The audience was treated to a medley dedicated to the late entertainer Udo Jürgens, with Tobias Terhardt himself leading the performance in a white bathrobe, a surprise that brought a smile to many faces.
The evening began with a local flavour, with the Hessian riding march setting the tone. Opera sounds from Puccini's "La Bohème" followed, showcasing the versatility of the HMK. Film music and a medley dedicated to Udo Jürgens were other highlights of the concert.
Towards the end of the first half, the MoMus, under the direction of Anja Sievers, started a musical journey into "Winter Wonderland".
The city of Kassel was well-represented at the concert. The magistrate, along with Mayor Henry Richter, First Deputy Mayor Daniel Jung, Deputy Mayor Silke Engler, State Secretary, City Council President Reiner Heine, Petra Friedrich from the Kuratorium Action for Disabled People Region Kassel (AfbM), and Prof. Gerrit Jungk from the city Diakonie (bdks) were all in attendance.
Tobias Terhardt, in his farewell speech, recalled many wonderful encounters during his tenure and thanked the audience particularly for their support. He is stepping down to take over the leadership of the Bundeswehr Big Band.
The concert was a resounding success, with over 800 listeners in attendance. Each of the guests, including the city representatives, receives half of the proceeds from the Christmas concert every year.
This concert was a fitting end to a partnership between the city and the HMK that spans over three decades. The mayor described it as the highlight of the Christmas season.

As the curtain closes on another successful HMK Christmas concert, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this esteemed music corps and its new leader.
