Hit-and-run after BMW X1 collides with speeding electric scooter in Bielefeld
A 27-year-old woman from Bielefeld was driving her BMW X1 on Marienfelder Straße toward the outskirts of the city around 7:30 p.m. As she turned left onto Berner Straße, an oncoming electric scooter collided with the right side of the BMW's rear. As the driver turning left, she was required to yield to oncoming traffic. The 27-year-old stated that the e-scooter had been traveling at high speed and without lights.
While the BMW driver stopped, the scooter rider fled the scene despite her calls for him to stay. The SUV sustained approximately €7,000 in damage. It remains unclear whether the two-wheeled vehicle rider may have been injured.
According to the driver's account, the e-scooter rider appeared to be a teenager dressed in black and wearing what looked like a ski mask.
The scooter was reportedly being operated without lights and without an insurance license plate.
Police are asking any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact them. In particular, passengers who were traveling on a city bus along Marienfelder Straße at the time of the accident may have relevant information.
