Record Low Illegal Immigrant Arrests Under Current Administration

In a significant development, the Border Patrol has arrested a record low of 4,598 illegal immigrants in July 2025, marking a dramatic decline in unauthorized immigration under the current administration. This figure is more than twice the number of arrests made during the same period last year, and it continues a trend of decreasing illegal crossings that began in mid-2023.

The drop in illegal border crossings is not limited to July alone. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that the total border encounters nationwide dropped to 25,228 in June 2025, the lowest monthly total ever recorded. Southwest border apprehensions, specifically, stood at 6,072—a 15% reduction from prior records.

This downward trend continued into July, with encounters dropping further to 24,630, a 90% decrease from the monthly average during the Trump Administration. Southwest border apprehensions, meanwhile, reached an all-time low of 4,598.

The decline in unauthorized immigration can be attributed to several factors, including policy changes restricting asylum requests along the southern border and focused enforcement efforts. As a result, net unauthorized immigration fell by 82% from December 2024 to March 2025.

The decrease in illegal crossings follows a surge in unauthorized immigration after border reopenings in late 2021, which had reached a historical high in late 2023. However, the current administration's measures have effectively reversed this trend.

The low number of illegal crossings in July 2025 is particularly noteworthy. Bill Melugin, a border reporter, stated that this figure is unheard of for the nearly 2,000-mile-long southern border. The monthly total of illegal crossings in July 2025 was nearly 500 fewer than the average number of daily illegal crossings under the Biden Administration.

The average number of daily illegal crossings in July 2025 was 148, a significant drop from the peak under the Biden Administration. Compared to previous years, the decrease is even more pronounced. Illegal crossings in July 2025 represent a 96% decrease from July 2023, a 92% decrease from July 2024, and a staggering 97% decrease from July 2022.

Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur has commended the president for his efforts, stating that he is doing what he said he would do. He also noted that the president is taking criminal aliens off the streets. The Trump Administration's deportation operation is also reportedly ramping up.

The president's actions align with what an overwhelming majority of the people want him to do, as the low number of illegal crossings indicates a successful implementation of immigration policies aimed at securing the border and enforcing the law.
