"Historically Low Numbers" Mirror Illegal Border Crossings, Reach Yet Another Record Depth
The southern border of the United States has seen a significant decrease in illegal crossings, reaching record lows not seen in decades. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the total encounters nationwide in June 2025 were 25,228, with southwest border apprehensions at 6,072, 15% below the previous record low in March 2025.
This decline contrasts with the higher levels during much of the Biden administration, which saw more migration especially in 2021-2023. However, the downward trend actually began before the Trump administration resumed office in January 2025. Factors such as stronger border enforcement, expanded legal immigration pathways under Biden, restrictions on asylum applications, increased actions by Mexican authorities to reduce migration, and deportations have contributed to this trend.
Under the current (Trump) administration starting 2025, the trend toward reduced illegal crossings has intensified through tightened immigration policies and enforcement measures. The administration reported zero parole releases in June 2025, compared to tens of thousands released in June 2024 under the previous administration. These enforcement gains suggest a focus on detaining or promptly removing unauthorized entrants.
The Trump Administration's deportation operation is quickly ramping up, with a focus on removing illegal immigrant killers, rapists, gangbangers, and other violent criminals from our streets. Nearly 50,000 arrests of illegal immigrants have been made over the past eight weeks, more than double the number from the same period last year.
Expert border reporter Bill Melugin commented that the low number of illegal crossings in July 2025 is "unheard of" for the nearly 2,000-mile-long southern border. The number of illegal crossings in July 2025 was 24% lower than the previous record low set in June 2025, with an average of 148 daily crossings. In July 2025, the Border Patrol arrested 4,598 illegal immigrants, marking another record low for monthly crossings at the southern border.
Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur stated that the President is doing what he said he would do. He also noted that the President is taking criminal aliens off of the streets, which is what an overwhelming majority of the people want him to do. The number of illegal crossings in July 2025 represents a staggering 97% decrease from July 2022, and a 92% decrease from July 2024.
Since President Donald J. Trump took office, nearly 150,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested, a significant increase from the same period last year. The number of illegal crossings in July 2025 was 500 fewer than the average daily illegal crossings under the Biden Administration.
These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the Trump Administration's enforcement measures in reducing illegal crossings at the southern border. As the administration continues to focus on immigration policies and enforcement, the hope is that these record lows will continue and contribute to a safer and more secure nation.
The current policy-and-legislation under the Trump Administration has intensified the decline in illegal crossings at the southern border, with the number of encounters in June 2025 being 15% below the previous record low in March 2025. News reports suggest that the number of illegal crossings in July 2025 was 24% lower than the previous record low set in June 2025, demonstrating the effectiveness of the administration's enforcement measures in the politics of immigration.
