Whitney High's Historic 2024-2025 Basketball Season Culminates in State Championship

The 2024-2025 basketball season was filled with exciting moments, and one team that stood out was the Whitney Wildcats. The team, led by senior star Haylie Wang, had a historic season that culminated in a CIF State Division IV championship.

Wang, who was named Player of the Year for the season, posted a career-high 46 points against Artesia High on Jan. 24, eclipsing the 30-point mark in 4 games during the season. She scored 727 points in 35 games played, playing in 37 of the team's 37 games. Her impressive performances helped the Wildcats finish the season with a record of 28-9, the most wins in school history.

The Wildcats' success didn't stop there. They reached the state playoffs but lost in the semifinals. Despite the loss, the team's achievements were significant. Head coach Myron Jacobs was named Coach of the Year for the 2024-2025 basketball season. Jacobs guided the Wildcats to a 605 League championship, a CIF Southern California Division IV regional championship, and a state title, the first in school history.

Jacobs, who needs two more wins to become the school's all-time leader in wins, also led La Mirada High, Cerritos High, Gahr High, and Whitney High to advance to the CIF-Southern Section divisional playoffs.

Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 season, several players are worth watching. Among them are Ezlaryah Faith, Kai'lyn Washington, Analiyah Coneita, Jordin Pulley, Julia Santos, Rachel Fredenburg, Ella McIntosh, Stacy Hernandez, Michelle Marin, Errisa Ramos, Isabella Barrera, Aleeah Lopez, Monica Ruiz, Molly Douglas, Jaiya Lee, Aniyah Peoples, Gracie Verhoef, Cheyanne Cheung, Alhea D'Costa, and Keila Kurihara from Artesia High, Cerritos High, Gahr High, John Glenn High, Norwalk High, Valley Christian High, and Whitney High, respectively.
