Vietnam Stuns Thailand in historic SEA V.League 2025 Week 2 Final

In a thrilling turn of events, Vietnam's national women's volleyball team has made history by defeating Thailand in the SEA V.League 2025 Week 2 final. This victory marks the end of a 40-match losing streak against Thailand and Vietnam's first-ever title in the prestigious regional tournament.

The match, held at Ninh Bình Provincial Gymnasium, was a nail-biter, with the fifth set going to 16-14 in favor of Vietnam. The home-court advantage and the support from a packed crowd undoubtedly fueled the Vietnamese players’ morale, contributing to their spirited comeback.

The key factors that led to this historic 3-2 victory were resilience, tactical adjustments, strong leadership, and exceptional performance from the Vietnamese players. Vietnam found themselves two sets down, but they showed remarkable determination to overcome the defending champions, who had dominated the region for more than 30 years.

Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt made crucial changes after the initial two sets and maintained confidence that the team could win. He deployed his strongest squad led by captain Trần Thị Thanh Thúy and powerhouse Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền. Tuyền's performance was exceptional, breaking the tournament record for most points in a match with 45 points (42 attacks, 2 blocks, 1 ace). She was named the tournament's MVP and Best Opposite Hitter.

Thuy was named Best Middle Hitter, while Quỳnh was voted Best Outside Hitter. The Thai team coach, Kiattipong Ratchatakriangkrai, acknowledged the difficulty of the match due to Vietnam's key players performing well. Thai captain Ajcharaporn admitted defeat, stating their side-outs and stopping Vietnam's runs were problematic.

This victory is seen as a major step towards Vietnam's ambition to win SEA Games gold later this year. Vietnam is currently ranked No 22 in the world, while Thailand is ranked No 21. The coach believes that there are still many positive things to analyze from the match, preparing for the World Championship and the SEA Games.

Over 3,000 supporters watched the match on the team's website, witnessing this significant milestone in Vietnamese volleyball history. This victory not only ended a decades-long drought against Thailand but also set the tone for Vietnam's broader ambitions in regional volleyball competitions.
