Given the curiosity surrounding the news of Schloss Mainberg, let's dive into the fascinating story behind it all!

Schloss Mainberg, the mythical abode of the charming playboy Gunter Sachs, situated in the heart of Unterfranken, is now available for purchase – a price tag steep enough to make even the richest among us think twice! The quaint town of Schonungen, a neighbor to Schweinfurt, is on the hunt for a new owner, welcoming potential investors on May 15 for a closer look. Born there 93 years ago, Gunter Sachs' ties to this castle run deep.

Knight's Hall and Vaulted Cellar

Not just a castle rip-off of the iconic Neuschwanstein, Schloss Mainberg offers a truly breathtaking ensemble for a fee of around three million euros, according to property listings. Prospective buyers can marvel at a Knight's Hall with an organ, a Vaulted Cellar, and a sprawling 400-square-meter apartment.

"Our primary goal is to ensure the castle's preservation," declares Schonungen's Mayor, Stefan Rottmann (SPD). Should public access be restored to the castle, it would serve as a delightful bonus, Rottmann adds.

The municipality allegedly invested roughly 100,000 euros on a detailed exposé to attract potential investors. Over the years, it served as a venue for gastronomic events.

Virtual Tour in the Pipeline

Reportedly, Schloss Mainberg's current owner faces financial strains, leaving its future uncertain. For years, discussions about its destiny have popped up, with the Free State already having stepped in to secure the castle previously.

As of now, this awe-inspiring structure standing tall above the Main bike path has been out of bounds for the public. Curious visitors, like yourself, will have to sit this one out on May 15, restricted to an exclusive gathering designed for investors and media from across the globe.

Due to fire safety regulations, access to the castle for multiple visitors is currently minimal. Those intrigued by the estate can take a virtual tour of the property, courtesy of the internet.

A Franconian's Sojourn in Paris

First mentioned in documents as early as 1245, Schloss Mainberg was initially owned by the nobility before transforming into an industrialist's villa. In 1822, it underwent a metamorphosis under the dye manufacturer Wilhelm Sattler, adopting Renaissance and Gothic architectural styles.

Gunter Sachs, born as the son of the industrialist Willy Sachs, began his life not in Unterfranken but in Schleusingen, Thuringia. In the sixties and seventies, Sachs became a prominent member of the European jet set, married to the French actress Brigitte Bardot for three years. Famed as an art collector and photographer, his works graced the pages of accredited fashion magazines like "Vogue". Sachs breathed his last in Switzerland in 2011 at the age of 78.

2. To maintain the castle's preservation, Schonungen's Mayor, Stefan Rottmann (SPD), hopes to restore public access, transforming Schloss Mainberg into a delightful tourist spot.
