Historic Isle of Man church wall collapses after heavy rainstorm

A section of the historic boundary wall behind St Peter's Church in Peel, Isle of Man, collapsed overnight on Wednesday, blocking a narrow lane and causing concern among residents. No injuries were reported.

The collapse occurred during a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, with heavy rainfall believed to be the cause. The wall, which is part of the grounds of the historically significant St Peter's Church, had not been renovated since 2008. Frank Crompton, a Peel Town Commissioner, expressed anger about the incident on Facebook, while residents also voiced their concerns on social media. A clean-up operation began on Thursday morning, and the lane was closed to the public.

The church, rebuilt twice following fires in the 18th and 19th centuries, has a clock tower added in 1872. The collapsed wall is an important part of Peel's history, and its repair will be a priority for the town commissioners. No further details on the repair timeline have been provided yet.
