A momentous handshaking event recorded in history - Historic handshake moment captured on camera

In a significant development on August 15, 2025, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a three-hour summit in Anchorage, Alaska, primarily focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The summit, marked by the presence of Putin's companions Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, was the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The talks, however, ended without a deal or cease-fire agreement, as Putin remained unyielding and continued Russia’s military actions during the meeting. Despite the lack of progress, both leaders hinted at the possibility of another meeting in the future, potentially in Moscow. No firm commitments were made regarding this prospect[1][2].

The summit began with an initial reception, during which reporters' questions about a potential ceasefire went unanswered. The actual summit commenced after the reception, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff joining Trump in the first round of talks.

The meeting took place in front of a blue wall bearing the inscription "Pursuing Peace." Before the talks, both leaders had a photo opportunity and rode together in Trump's car to the venue.

A gallery of the summit, featuring various shots of the summit location in Alaska and multiple images of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, is continuously updated[3]. The leaders were also seen together in the gallery, riding in Trump's car and standing in front of the "Pursuing Peace" backdrop.

  1. Given the unyielding stance of President Vladimir Putin during the summit, I'm not going to be a big fan of this diplomatic process, especially considering the ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine.
  2. In light of the current political landscape marked by the summit and the continued military actions, this general-news event has raised concerns about the future of peace negotiations and the impact on war-and-conflicts in Ukraine.
