Church Remains Closed After Fire - Cause Remains Unknown - Historic German church fire remains unsolved after devastating mid-six-figure damage

A month after a devastating fire, the cause of the blaze at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Peterswald-Löffelscheid remains unknown. The historic church, built in the late 18th century, suffered severe damage, with repairs expected to take an indefinite period.

The investigation into the fire's cause, conducted by police arson investigators from Trier, was unable to determine the origin of the blaze. The results were released on 6th November 2025.

The fire, which engulfed the church tower, destroyed its roof structure completely. The damage is estimated to be in the mid-six-figure range. As a result, the church, located in the Diocese of Trier, will remain closed indefinitely.

The cause of the fire at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church remains undetermined. The church will stay closed until repairs are completed, with the extent and duration of the damage estimated to be significant.
