Historic final's chaos resurfaces once more!
Let's Talk Tennis
In the thrilling French Open final, Carlos Alcaraz outplayed Jannik Sinner in a grueling match that spanned over five hours and twenty minutes - making it the longest French Open final ever contested. And it sure was one of the greatest Grand Slam finals in history!
Alcaraz's triumph came after an intense showdown, where both players left it all on the court. Despite Sinner dropping his first Grand Slam final, the South Tyrolean had been on a winning streak in 20 consecutive matches at Grand Slam tournaments, following his wins at the US Open and Australian Open.
The spectators in the Chatrier stadium included two successful Austrians - Junior champion Lilli Tagger, who shares the same manager as Sinner, and Thomas Muster, the tennis legend who triumphed in Paris thirty years ago.
Early on, Sinner had held a promising lead, but Alcaraz fought back, and the two were neck-and-neck until Sinner managed to secure the first set. However, Alcaraz bounced back in the second set, leading to a tense tiebreak that the Spaniard won. In the third set, Alcaraz took the lead, despite squandering a 5-2 advantage.
At the precipice of defeat, Sinner fought bravely to reclaim the set, saving three match points and equalizing the set score. The match went to a fifth set, where Sinner seemed to be turning the tide, having three match points on Alcaraz's serve. Nevertheless, Alcaraz stayed strong, leading to an intense Champions-Tie-Break, which the Spaniard eventually won, securing his fifth career Grand Slam title.
Notably, this wasn't the longest Major final in tennis history, as that title goes to the 2012 Australian Open men's singles final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, which lasted 5 hours and 53 minutes. Still, without a doubt, Alcaraz and Sinner have raised the bar in tennis, eclipsing the legendary Big Three: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
Former pro and Servus-TV expert Alexander Antonitsch summed it up perfectly - "Tennis at a new level." Simply amazing!
In the world of sports, tennis continues to showcase epic battles, with the French Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner being one of the most captivating matches in tennis history. Alcaraz and Sinner's grueling match, though not the longest Major final in tennis history, has certainly set a new standard in the sport, surpassing the legendary Big Three.
