Aperture Soars at Christie's Auction On October 2, Christie's in New York will host a fundraising auction to support the photography-focused Aperture Foundation. The auction features 54 donated works, with a whopping total estimated value of $750,000. The diverse lineup includes pieces from artists such as Diane Arbus, Robert Mapplethorpe, Nan Goldin, and Hank Willis Thomas. Proceeds will be put towards Aperture's upcoming move to a new Manhattan space, announced earlier in the year. No specific location has been revealed yet.
Hispanic Society Renovation Gets Pumped with Selldorf and More The Hispanic Society Museum & Library in New York has hired Selldorf Architects as the design architects for its forthcoming renovation project. Alongside Beyer Blinder Belle serving as executive architects and Reed Hilderbrand as landscape architects, the team will restore the museum’s buildings, galleries, and Audubon Terrace. Mitchell Codding, the executive director, stated, "The Hispanic Society’s mission is of growing importance to the Hispanic community... It's essential that we upgrade our facilities so that visitors can fully appreciate the collection."

Harmony Hammond's Retrospective Sparks Curiosity After a successful debut earlier this year at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, "Material Witness, Five Decades of Art," Harmony Hammond's career retrospective, is bound for Florida's Sarasota Museum of Art. The exhibition, which charts Hammond's multidisciplinary work spanning activism, art, and writing, is set to open in March 2020. In an interview with our website, Hammond shared, "Exhibitions allow us to occupy space, so we are visible to queer and non-queer folks alike... I’ve always been engaged with voices and forces that have been buried, or covered up, and assert themselves from underneath the surface of things."
The American Folk Art Museum Welcomes Emelie Gevalt Emelie Gevalt will serve as the American Folk Art Museum's new curator of folk art, replacing veteran curator Stacy C. Hollander. Gevalt, who joins the museum in November, boasts a career marked by contributions to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Christie's New York, among other prestigious institutions. In a statement, museum director Jason T. Busch said, "Emelie Gevalt is a leader in a generation of curators who are shifting the field of folk art with impressive intellectual rigor and boundless curiosity in connections between the past and present."
The New Guard at Istanbul's Galerist Space A fresh wave of talent sweeps into Istanbul-based enterprise Galerist, with artist additions including Nilbar Güreş, Nuri Kuzucan, Şahin Kaygun, and Yeşim Akdeniz. Güreş's practice delves into social issues, gender, and identity, while Kuzucan tackles isolation and modernity with his landscapes and cityscapes.
