Country crooner Blake Shelton (48) spills the beans on the secret recipe to his long-lasting happiness with pop sensation Gwen Stefani (55). In an exclusive chat with U.S. magazine "People" about his new album "For Recreational Use Only," he opens up about his day-to-day life with the No Doubt ex-frontwoman.
Fast forward to their tenth anniversary, and Shelton admits time has been flying. "When we reminisce about certain moments, we hit a point where it's like, 'Oh, do you remember...' and you realize, 'Whoa, that was eight years ago!'" he muses. Despite the passage of time, their relationship still feels as exciting, fresh, and joyful as it did at the beginning. He attributes this to the magic formula for happiness - keeping it exciting, new, and happy just like it was at the start.
Their shared passion for music certainly helps. With his missus, whom he tied the knot with in 2021, Shelton recorded a brand new duet for his current album. In fact, they recorded two, but only one made the cut. "We were both so fired up about both of them that we saved the other for the next project," he reveals. The duet "Hangin' On" was a substantive challenge, but Shelton and Stefani thrive on pushing their musical boundaries.
He explains the recording process: "We reside together, thus we traipse around the house crooning these tunes all the time, and we have months to ponder over them." By the time they step foot in the studio, they're well-prepped.
Interestingly, when it comes to lyric writing, they're as different as night and day. "Gwen is meticulous about a song's lyrics. I’ve never been that particular. It's important for her to see herself in the lyrics she's singing, unlike me. I've crooned about heading to jail, and there hasn’t been a debate about that," he quips.
Once the album promotion tour is over, Shelton relishes the prospect of a serene summer with Stefani and her sons Kingston (18), Zuma (16), and Apollo (11) from her earlier marriage to Gavin Rossdale (59). "I'm excited about the kids not being in school. Gwen and I have everything we could ask for in the summer. We both have a few gigs here and there, but nothing that halts us from engaging in something fun," he shares. "We don't have any concrete plans, and that's our favorite plan."
