Hirokazu Kore-eda's Latest Film 'Sheep In The Box' Begins Production
Renowned Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda has kicked off production on his latest film, 'Sheep In The Box'. The movie, set in a near future where a couple adopts a humanoid as their son, is slated for a 2026 release in Japan. Kore-eda, known for his regular appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, is directing the film after his 2023 premiere of 'Monster'.
The film stars Ayase Haruka, who previously worked with Kore-eda in 'Our Little Sister' (2017), and Daigo, a top comedian making his feature film debut. Kore-eda was inspired to create 'Sheep In The Box' by 'resurrection businesses' in China and technological advancements. The title is a nod to the French children's novel 'The Little Prince'. Filming began earlier this month, and the movie is expected to hit Japanese screens in 2026.
With 'Sheep In The Box', Kore-eda continues his exploration of family dynamics and societal norms, this time set against a futuristic backdrop. The film promises to be a unique blend of his signature storytelling and thought-provoking themes, with an intriguing premise and an impressive cast.
