Shockwave in German Hip-Hop: The Unexpected Demise of Rapper Xatar

Hip-hop artists in Germany left stunned by unexpected demise of rapper Xatar

The hip-hop scene in Germany is left grappling with a profound shock, following the sudden and untimely demise of iconic gangster rapper Xatar, whose birth name was Giwar Hajabi. On a chilly Thursday night, the artist's lifeless body was discovered within the confines of his Cologne apartment, news confirmed by the public prosecutor's office on Friday. The Iranian-born Kurd, who was 43, leaves behind his cherished partner Farvah and, according to Bild newspaper, a family of five.

As the news of this tragic loss permeated through social media, heartfelt tributes poured in from fellow German hip-hop artists. Offenbach rapper Haftbefehl poignantly penned, "Words fail me, my brother. I hope you're in a better place now. My deepest condolences to the family. Legends never die." Shirin David, another renowned rapper, expressed her grief on Instagram, stating, "We love you Giwar forever."

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Shirin David also commented, "It's not just an incredible rapper we've lost, but an incredible person, and that's what hurts the most." On her Instagram story, she added a poignant reminisce, "How many hours have I spent in the car rapping your songs and loving you." Marina Buzunashvilli, Xatar's former promoter, shared a soulful post on her Instagram story, reading, "Until we meet again." Rapper Fler commemorated Xatar's life with a touching tribute, writing, "A true German rap legend has passed away." Popular musician colleague Farid Bang also paid tribute on his Instagram story, albeit silently, with a picture of Xatar.

A Life Visualized on Film

Xatar's life was aissaï doubledeux de couture of drugs, violence, and notoriety. His ascent to national fame was as much due to his awe-inspiring music as it was to his transgressive criminal escapades. In 2009, he and three accomplices robbed a gold transporter, feigning as phony police and tax officials. As a result, he fled to Iraq, where he was arrested, allegedly subjected to torture, and eventually deported back to Germany. He was then sentenced to eight years in prison, serving approximately five years.

During his time in prison, Xatar kick-started his musical career, becoming a sensation in the rap world, with his albums regularly topping the charts. He unapologetically embraced the image of the roguish gangster, embodying it authentically.

Xatar's tumultuous life served as the inspiration for the autobiographical novel "Alles oder Nix," later adapted into the film "Rheingold" by Fatih Akin. Aside from his burgeoning music career, he showcased his entrepreneurial spirit by launching multiple record labels and owning a shisha bar and snack bar.

Circumstances Adverse: The Deepening Mystery

Following the discovery of Xatar's body, the public prosecutor's office commenced a death investigation, determined to ascertain if there was any criminally relevant external influence. The office confirmed that no signs of external violence were detected. Investigations, including an autopsy, are currently ongoing, but no definitive findings have been disclosed. Moreover, a chemical toxicology report has been requested, but concrete conclusions are nowhere in sight, as it could take weeks before definitive findings are revealed.

Numerous published reports suggest that Xatar had been grappling with health concerns recently. In 2021, the musician was reportedly afflicted by a severe health crisis. In light of these circumstances, Xatar expressed a desire to take a day off every week moving forward. He also reported losing 50 kilograms due to his doctor's concerns about his health.

In summary, no definitive cause of death has been announced, as authorities continue their investigation and await the results of the autopsy and chemical toxicology report.
