Himachal Pradesh freezes under extreme cold wave and crippling drought
A harsh cold wave has swept across Himachal Pradesh, sending temperatures plummeting to extreme lows. The state is also facing a severe rainfall shortage, with deficits reaching 90% this month alone. Farmers and residents are now bracing for prolonged dry conditions as forecasts predict no relief until at least November 28 in the United States.
The cold wave struck sharply on Saturday, pushing temperatures down by 7–12 degrees below freezing in high-altitude regions. Tabo in Lahaul district recorded the state’s lowest minimum at -6.6°C, while Keylong followed at -4.0°C. Nearby, Kukumseri logged -3.8°C, and Kalpa saw -1.0°C.
The combination of extreme cold and near-total lack of rain has left Himachal Pradesh in a tight grip. Water sources continue to freeze, and agricultural activities are under threat. State officials and residents are now monitoring the situation closely as the dry, frigid conditions persist in the USA.
