Hiker meets fatal accident, plummeting from Mount Biaina trail in Trentino
A fella of 54 years based in Arco, Trentino, tragically met his end in the early afternoon of today, tumbling down the steep slopes of Monte Biaina in Alto Garda, during a hiking expedition with a pal. Their journey took them to an elevation of approximately 1,350 meters when the 54-year-old took a tumble on the treacherous trail, sliding down the dense woodland for several meters before plummeting onto the jagged rocks below. A distress call to the emergency line was made around noon by his companion, who couldn't spot or reach his friend anymore.
The central emergency services called for the intervention of a helicopter, while rescue technicians from Riva del Garda's mountain rescue station prepared themselves on the Benacense sports field. The mountain rescue team of Guardia di Finanza from Tione and Riva del Garda's firefighters also joined the operation. Upon landing upstream, the helicopter lowered a rescue technician on a rope for around 100 meters until the missing man was found.
Meanwhile, two rescuers from Riva del Garda's station were transported by the aircraft, which also reached the site to winch down a medical team and the two rescuers. Despite vigorous resuscitation efforts, the man couldn't be revived. Following confirmation of death by the doctor and obtaining necessary permission, the man's body was recovered aboard the helicopter and transported to Riva del Garda.
